———— The “Community of Christ” Name Change ————
On April 6, 2001The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS) changed its public name to “Community of Christ;” its legal name remains unchanged. This new name comes 171 years after Joseph Smith founded the Latter Day Saint movement. The change appears to be an attempt by the RLDS church to publicly distance itself from its founder and parts of its own theological past, and to appear as a genuine Christian church.
Throughout this book the presently named Community of Christ church will be referred to as the RLDS church.
